Florida’s Dan Perez Films

Dan Perez Films was established by a film that features Puerto Rican motivational speaker, Victor Antonio, in the documentary called “The Motivator: The Business of Selling Hope”. The film received the ‘Director’s Choice’ Award at the 2008 Rincon International Film Festival. Dan Perez is a documentary filmmaker born of Puerto Rican & Spanish parents and grew up in the Bronx, New York and relocated to South Florida in 2003. Since then he has produced, directed and edited two films.

His latest film, “P.A.T.H.” documents a hip-hop summer camp held in Miami in the summer of 2008. The film had it’s world premiere screening at the 2009 Chicago International Hip Hop Film Festival where it was a finalist in the ‘Best Documentary’ category and is also screening this month at the Sunscreen Film Festival which was recently named one of the Top 25 “Coolest Film Festivals” by MovieMaker Magazine. “P.A.T.H.” has also screened in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Washington D.C.

“P.A.T.H.” (which stands for Preserving, Archiving and Teaching Hip-Hop History) was filmed in the summer of 2008, teenagers from ages 12-18 studied hip-hop history, the art of DJing, MCing (rapping), B-boying and B-girling (break-dancing), and urban art (graffiti). Several of Miami’s most talented artists and performers served as instructors. Including urban artist Krave, DJ Immortal from Scratch Academy, B-Girl Beta Rawkz and the “Empress of Hip Hop” Soulflower, who has shared the mic with emcees such as Erykah Badu, KRS-ONE and Outkast.

There is also Dan’s Video Creations which has produced videos for some of the most well-known companies and organizations in South Florida. Some clients include Miami Children’s Hospital, Bruce Rossmeyer’s Harley Davidson and Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce.

Dan’s Video Creations also donates time producing videos for several non-profit agencies in the Miami area including the Miami Children’s Hospital Foundation, Firewall Ministries, Michael Fux Foundation and most currently a video project with CHARLEE Homes for Children. On a personal note Mr. Perez’s wife is a two-time kidney transplant recipient so producing videos for National Kidney Foundation whose mission is to prevent kidney and urinary tract diseases, improve the health and well-being of individuals and families affected by diseases, and increase the availability of all organs for transplantation is not only community outreach but a heartfelt mission.

Team OCGente will keep in touch with Dan to see if “P.A.T.H.” ends up at any local theatres.
