‘Pacific Rim’ by Guillermo del Toro

Visionary film director Guillermo del Toro’s entry for the Summer 2013 season will be “Pacific Rim” which hits theaters July 12th, 2013. Here you will meet the Kaiju Monsters and Human Powered Robots called “Jaegers” piloted by Idris Elba (Prometheus), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy) and Rinko Kikuchi.

The first “Pacific Rim” trailer in glorious HD, turns out to be pretty spectacular! Director Guillermo del Toro presents a colossal battle between Man and Monster in this science fiction action thriller. We learn that these Aliens did not come from the stars, but from beneath the sea, via a portal between dimensions in the Pacific Ocean, hence “Pacific Rim.”

For fans of the video game “Portal” actress Ellen McLain is playing the voice of the “Gipsy Danger” Jaeger A.I., the voice actor behind GLaDOS will be starring in the movie using the voice known and loved by fans worldwide.

Guillermo del Toro is from Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. He developed an interest in filmmaking in his early teens. Later, he learned about makeup and effects from the legendary artist Dick Smith who rose to fame with 1973′s “The Exorcist.” During that time he worked on making his own short films and by the age of 21, executive produced his first feature, “Dona Herlinda and Her Son” in 1986.

His first big break was 1993′s “Cronos” which won nine academy awards in Mexico, then went on to win the International Critics Week prize at Cannes.

Following this success, he made his first Hollywood film, “Mimic” in 1997 starring actress Mira Sorvino. Later he helmed blockbusters like “Blade 2″, “Hellboy 1 & 2.” He has a writing credit for the upcoming “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey” and his film “Pan’s Labyrinth” is his most acclaimed movie to date. From this trailer alone it seems he will be very busy this coming Summer.
