Evangeline REMIXED 2013

Evangeline REMIXED is an About Productions “work-in-progress” multi-media play featuring musical performances by Grammy Award–winning Los Lobos musicians David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez. Two performances are coming up in Southern California, more dates around the state are planned for the Fall.

This is the next phase of the Evangeline, the Queen of Make-Believe project – the popular theaterwork that debuted last spring at the Bootleg Theater. It will be the touring version of the show and will feature musical performances by Grammy Award winners David Hidalgo and Louie Pérez of Los Lobos. It is their songbook which provides the soundtrack for the production.

Set in 1968, Evangeline is a journey of self-discovery by an East L.A. devoted daughter by day, and a Hollywood go-go dancer by night. Her neighborhood roots and make-believe world collide when she experiences the music of the Sunset Strip and the West Side art scene. It is set against the 1968 student walkouts in East L.A. and the fight for equal education and civil rights.

Featuring Louie Pérez as a storyteller integrated into the ensemble of actors and musicians for the first time along with original video designed by award-winning cinematographer Claudio Rocha. The production is written by Pérez, and Theresa Chavez and Rose Portillo, who will also co-direct.

On Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at 7:30 p.m., at the Autry National Center’s Wells Fargo Theater a performance will culminate a nine-day residency at the Autry. That performance will include an open rehearsal and museum tour for highest-risk high school students.

Tickets for the March 27th performance are $20 general admission and $15 for Autry members.

A private reception with Pérez and Hidalgo will also take place following the performance. Tickets for the program plus the post-performance reception are $50 and support the education programs of About Productions. Autry National Center is located in Griffith Park at 4700 Western Heritage Way, Los Angeles, CA 90027.

An additional “work-in-progress” performance of Evangeline REMIXED will be presented on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Pasadena, 464 E. Walnut St., Pasadena, CA 91101. Tickets are $10 to $15, and support the educational programs of About Productions.
